End Credits: Mother!

Director Darran Aronofsky brings us a characteristically twisted, mysterious and artistic tale with Mother! Jennifer Lawrence stars as a houseproud wife alongside Javier Bardem. Their relationship is strained when the husband disrupts their peaceful life by letting strangers – played by Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer – stay in their home. With mysterious horror and suspense building from some very strange behaviour, it plays a bit like an ambitious greatest hits set from some of Aranofsky’s other films. The confusion of Black Swan and the madness of Requiem for a Dream mix with the bizarre approaches of The Fountain and Pi. It may be too much for some, but if you’ve enjoyed his other work this is for you. FYI The Wrestler doesn’t count – it’s far too safe. Mother! is pretty full on.
