March 2011 - energy

Thanks to all those who used their imagination and entered The Big Issue in the North photo competition last month, with the theme of “energy”. Shown is the winning entry by Richard Hone, who wins £25. The best of the rest can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigissuenorth/sets/72157626169100405/

Each month we invite readers to send in their photos, preferably via email, on a particular theme. A panel of judges will decide on the winning entrant, who will receive a £25 prize.

We will publish a selection of the best photos each month. We are looking for originality, atmosphere and flair as much as technical ability.

Send your high-resolution jpeg photos to photocomp@bigissuenorth.co.uk and mark your email “photo comp”. Or post prints or slides to Photo Competition, The Big Issue in the North, 10 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JN.

You can enter as many photos as you want. Edit, alter or improve your photos – but remember, this is a photo competition, not a Photoshop competition.

You must legally hold the copyright to your entries but we reserve the right to publish them as we see fit in The Big Issue in the North. And include a few words, which we might also publish, about why the photo fits this month’s theme.

This month’s theme is “communication”. The closing date is

10 April so get snapping and good luck.
