Big Issue in the North Presents SPOWE Uganda May 7th , 7pm, Seven Arts

Expect nothing less from this fundraiser than a great evening all with the aim of raising money and awareness of two organisations committed to supporting people to help themselves and work their way towards a better life.

SPOWE Uganda

At a joint fundraiser for both the Big Issue in the North and SPOWE-Uganda (Support for Orphans, Widows and the Elderly) bring your dancing shoes, have your dosh at the ready and prepare for a night of great music featuring locally-based performers Danny McNab and Plans, and northern lovelies Vinyl Act, plus the opportunity to bid on some fantastic auction prizes.
Tickets cost £10, concessions £8 and can be purchased by emailing claire.dormand@bigissueinthenorth.com or call 0113 243 9027. You can also buy them from Seven Arts, 31a Harrogate Road, Leeds, LS7 3PD.

Pitch Updates
Leeds city centre now has three brand new pitches. The old, tired and redundant pitches have been replaced. This has been made possible through close inter agency work with Leeds city council. Potential sites were reviewed and agreed through close cohesion.
The importance of the vendors having direct involvement in the development of the pitches was also crucial to the pitch development. A notice board was created with all the details of the new potential pitches. The vendors then had to vote for the three pitches that they wanted the most.
This system gave the vendors a say in their own futures and it communicated to them that a ‘Them and Us’, policy does not exist. It also reinforced the bonds between staff and vendors who took to the project with great enthusiasm. In Leeds we want it to be clear, through action as well as words, that vendors are valued and their voices are heard by staff.
