Plus: Game Night

Jennifer Lawrence stars as Dominika Egorova, a prima ballerina forced to become a Russian spy in order to get treatment for her mother’s illness. After rigorous and sadistic training she becomes the one of the best sparrows – agents who use manipulation and seduction as a weapon. As in all good spy movies, in Red Sparrow things don’t stay straightforward for long. After making contact with a CIA agent and possible mole Dominika’s world and the movie are turned upside down, making for plenty of twists and turns to keep audiences guessing.

Another movie chock full of plot twists, albeit in a much more lighthearted manner, out this week is Game Night. Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams star as Max and Annie, a couple who got together because of their competitive nature and who hold a weekly game night for their friends. Wanting to add a little more excitement to the night, Max’s wealthy brother arranges an elaborate murder mystery, but when he is kidnapped the lines of what is real and what is part of the game become blurred.
