Vendors hope for Supersonic new era

Northern vendors are out in force this week, selling Big Issue magazine for the first time in 30 years.

Following the difficult decision to cease publication of Big Issue North magazine, vendors are now able to earn an income by selling the national publication, while still receiving support from in their local area from Big Issue North’s teams.

And vendors were helped to get off to a great start with the new magazine by the appearance of a familiar Northern face on the cover of this week’s Big Issue.

Noel Gallagher, indie music hero and reliably outspoken quote machine, has given an exclusive interview to Big Issue, and northern vendors are hopeful that his iconic presence will boost sales as they begin this new era.

Colin, a vendor in Manchester, said: “This is now a new era for us all and it’s a very exciting time and new start. It’s great to see Noel Gallagher on the cover for our first Big Issue UK copy. I’m actually a really big fan of Oasis and it’s very often my all-time favourite choice of karaoke song! I’m hoping by having a well-known Manchester musician on the front, it will help my sales this week!”

During this new era, the value of support from the public is never far from vendors’ minds. It’s vital that people across the north find their local vendor and buy a magazine.

As vendor Sophica said: “With the change to Big Issue UK, I really hope my customers keep on visiting me and continue to buy the magazine. I guess this first week, I’ll have to see how things go and hope people are still happy to support me and my family.”
