BMX Bandits’ Duglas T Stewart takes his summer playlist literally with these five sun-drenched tracks. The band will be bringing the sunshine indoors on 28 May, when they play the Gigantic Indie All Dayer.

Sunlight Bathed In Golden Glow – Felt (from the album The Strange Idols Pattern And Other Short Stories)
I’m a big fan of Lawrence. My favourite group he has been in is Go-Kart Mozart but this song is a big favourite of mine. I like to play it when the summer sun is shining high in the sky.

The Sweet Sounds Of Summer – The Shangri-Las (from the album The Best Of The Shangri-Las: The Mercury Years)
I think The Shangri-Las are the perfect pop group. There songs are like mini movies for the ears. This is a song for warm summer nights.

Come To The Sunshine – Van Dyke Parks (from the album Arrangements Volume 1)
Van Dyke Parks is best known as the lyricist for the Beach Boys album Smile but he’s responsible for a lot of great music of his own, plus he arranged The Bare Necessities for original Disney animated movie The jungle Book.

That Summer Feeling – Jonathan Richman And The Modern Lovers (from the album Jonathan Sings)
Jonathan Richman was the artist who made me decide I wanted to make music. This song is about the loss of innocence and regrets from summers past. BMX Bandits recorded a version of this song and Jonathan was very kind about our version.

You Wanted The Summer – Tenniscoats (from the album Hope You’ Are Wells)
Tenniscoats are my favourite group in the world. They are the purest musical force I’ve ever encountered. This is their version of a song by the brilliant Scottish jazz outsider Bill Wells. It’s very sad, fragile and beautiful.
