Brooklyn indie-rockers Augustines talk running drummers, go-karts and their upcoming appearance at Dot-to-Dot festival (27-29 May).

How would you describe your sound?
Always a hard one to answer. Let’s say passion-fuelled, intelligent rock and roll.

Tell us what you’ve been up to since last summer?
We wrote a new record, which will be out this coming June. Otherwise, just preparing for the release and future shows.

What festivals are you playing this year?
Obviously Dot to Dot Festival, plus we have announced a few in mainland Europe. A lot more to be announced in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that.

Who else are you excited to see at the festival(s)?
Temper Trap and the Mystery Jets. Guns N’ Roses have re-formed so hopefully catch that show at some point if possible.

If you could curate your own festival what would the line-up look like (artists dead or alive)?
Oh man, with those rules my festival would last a month. Let’s just say it would feature some oldie legends like James Brown, Etta James, Nina Simone and Roy Orbison, with a bit of Talking Heads and Nirvana thrown in.

What’s your best festival memory?
Experiencing our first major ego ramp in Ostrava. I must’ve run up and down that thing about 20 times during our set – and I’m the drummer!

What’s in your festival survival kit?
Toilet paper, talcum powder and baby wipes.

Apart from music, what should the ideal festival have?
A circus. And go-karts. And probably a warm lake to swim in.
