End Credits:
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Plus Deepwater Horizon
Tim Burton’s new film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children stars neither Johnny Depp or ex-wife Helena Bonham Carter but it does return to this quirky, dark, theme-park horror style. Based on the eponymous book, the film stars Jake Portman, who travels to a mysterious island – home to a school of, well, peculiar children. Living in a time loop to the external world, the children are protected from the evil Wights who hunt them for their powers that include pyrokenisis, prophecy, superhuman strength or an extra mouth in the back of their neck.
Another movie based on a book out this week is Deepwater Horizon, which tells the story of the final hours of the ill fated drilling platform that led to the huge Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The movie is well produced, tense, gritty and dramatic in dealing with the tragedy in which 11 workers died.
