Festival Q&A:
The Wedding Present

The Leeds indie rockers are who everyone's excited to see most at the Gigantic Indie All Dayer, 27 May. Dave Gedge tells us who he's looking forward to watching

Who else are you excited to see at Gigantic?
The Primitives. I’ve always loved their sound but their songs are great, too. It’s rare for bands to get both right. I asked Tracy to sing on a Wedding Present record once but she turned me down. I was gutted.

What’s your best festival memory?

My dog Eric having a little wee on a member of Deacon Blue at Reading Festival.

What are your festival essentials?
Waterproof mascara and a bag of chips.

How does playing a festival differ from playing your own gig?

The main difference is the time you have. Often there’s no chance of a sound check so you just set up, line check, and go, which can be stressful if you’re performing in front of thousands of people and you can’t hear what you’re playing.

What’s your favourite part of playing a festival?

I always relish the challenge of playing to a large group of people who are not necessarily there to specifically see the band. People tell me that The Wedding Present makes more sense once you’ve seen it live so I like having the opportunity to win people over.
