End Credits: The Nun

Horror fans rejoice, especially those of The Conjuring series. A new spinoff but kind of pre-prequel is here with The Nun.

For those not in the know, The Conjuring is based on the real life reports of self-professed demonologists and paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Maybe you’ve heard of Amityville? Well, they were the inspiration.

Anyway The Conjuring got two haunting films, and then two spinoffs, Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation, based on a possessed doll the Warrens had investigated prior to the events in The Conjuring. Whether or not you believe the events they are based on they still stand up as solid horror films worth a watch.

The Nun takes place before all the others in 1950s Romania, where a young nun has taken her own life. Sister Irene and a priest are sent by the Vatican to investigate, and Ttey soon find more sinister and mysterious happenings that seem to be caused by Valak, the demon nun who first appeared in the second Conjuring film.

The tie-ins and links may be a bit complex, confusing and offputting to the uninitiated. If you like horror but have missed the others, don’t worry – they aren’t essential viewing in order to enjoy The Nun. You can catch up at a later date.
